Hi everyone,

Quick status update on my promise to streamline the process for reporting
and following up on suspected abuse of the MeeGo mark. I'm suggesting the
following process, before I post anything formal on the website.

1) If you find a site that appears to be an abuse of the MeeGo mark
guidelines, search for it in bugzilla and if it's not already there, file a
bug to bdub.
2) If there's an issue, Brian will contact the registered owner of the site,
make specific recommendations for what needs to be done to be compliant, and
request a response in a given time period.
3) If there's no timely resolution, legal will get involved.

Step 2 is to ensure that this is a fair process. I want to ensure that if
the owner of a site was acting in good faith but was genuinely unaware of
the rules around the MeeGo mark, they have a chance to make things right
without being dragged into any unpleasantness. After all, what we ideally
want is a healthy web community with a high signal-to-noise ratio, and I
think this helps us do that.

Brian

ps - Ansi5, David, Dave, Tim, and Quim - good eyes. Your instincts were
correct, it's definitely out of step with the policy. I sent a letter to
the registrant of meegosoftware.com today, signature required, noting the
changes they would need to make to the website in order to be inline with
the policy and guidelines, or requesting confirmation they'd let it expire.
