I have been interested at the idea "microkernel + mobile device " for a long time, but AFAIK the only success in industry is OKL4 (http://www.ok-labs.com/). I know microkernel arch is of course better than monolithic kernel, but I don't know if there is any features that a OS with microkernel can do and with monolithic kernel can't do.
