Also, I should have been more clear: it is enough if there is one reference platform that is generally useful without non-free blobs, and I do think free distributable firmware blobs that don't run on the main CPU are OK, too. I am not riding my usual Free Software horse here. I genuinly think that having essential, non-free components in the middle of the MeeGo stack is a significant operational disadvantage if you want to build a community, just as it is for Maemo. >> In other words, it should be possible to remove all non-free packages >> from MeeGo without losing anything essential, and we should consider >> actually doing this. >> >> If the non-free packages are essential and can not be removed, MeeGo >> would be a farce, in my opinion. > > Since you have the geographical advantage against many others on the ml > with your same arguments, please drop by in our wing and maybe afterward > you'll be able to help by explaining to all the others on the ml what > are the real problems. I understand that the N900 wouldn't be a viable product without the non-free components in it. But I hope that MeeGo can be a viable platform for building products on without relying on non-free components in all its useful configurations. _______________________________________________ MeeGo-dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.meego.com/listinfo/meego-dev
