How would you suggest that we apply pressure to companies to open
their closed components?

Here's the current list of bullet points up on the wiki page:
  1. The the system doesn't require the use of a non-free component.
  2. All core MeeGo components must conform to a license approved by
the OSI and Free Software Foundation
  3. Separate binary repositories

>From what Nokia and Intel employees have said, #1 and #3 are already a
part of the current plan. As for #2, I think the MeeGo licensing page
has just used the words "open source" and would accept any
OSI-approved license, many of which are also considered Free by the
FSF.

I think the points are all good and should be included in some kind of
Vendor social contract, but I'm still unsure of how these specific
points will buy us leverage, unlike, say, the promise of being a
reference platform.
