Makes it much easier to use the components in other projects. Its
useful for things like libsocialweb that are useful elsewhere. It also
seems AFAICT that gitorious doesn't offer the ability to download tar
files based on git tags like git.moblin.org did. But I've not used
gitorious before so it might be that I just can't find it.
