I have used to image available from Nokia and also made my own hack-together by hand by using parts from my own N900 flash and from the Nokia supplied MeeGo N900 image. I haven't tried any image building instructions (maybe I missed them, don't remember seeing those..)
Anyway what I do know is that if you are going to make an N900 image of MeeGo, it has to be 256+8=264MB and with the layout I described - or at least that kind of layout seems to work..
