Ah - well, zypper doesn't work quite as well as it could (yet) sadly.
That is because we use a rather old and crusty version of 'rpm' itself.
If we use the latest SUSE version - we get Recommends: and Suggests:
With those we can simplify package splitting and accelerate building. As
an example for the nautilus package:
Meego: Requires: gvfs-gphoto2
SUSE: Recommends: gvfs
That helps reduce build times, reduce the installation of un-necessary
packages, and (rather more importantly) allows distro updates to be done
pleasantly [zypper dup]. Recommends are rather useful to ensure a
consistent set of weak linkages, and a great way to ensure that packages
that are not (strictly) required are actually included and installed on
update[1]
