My comment was not to pass judgment on whether IVI OEMs are of a liberated or draconian bent. It is simply to present and perhaps shine some small light on what behavior and mindset we could expect from OEMs today. An OEM's HMI is a radically controlled and tested environment today. This ranges from 6 figure purpose built vehicles per model, facilitation 1000's of hours drive time testing in various climates ranging from sub-Sahara to arctic circle. Staff are encouraged to take advance health checks and advanced driving lesson, stuck in a 300+bhp 1 ton machine and told hare around Nurnberg or Fiorano as fast as insanely possible and change the radio station or take a hands free phone call. But they are inspired by mobile device movement in terms of accommodating rapid innovation, time to market and the "app market" is a key value for them. So, something like Meego Compliance for an app will be important in terms of assurance, but I suspect they will go through some extra post validation before they pull them into their app store - which I think reflects what Mark said earlier on this thread in terms of the choice being made by the distributor.
