This is being done by a community project, for which there are no
lawyers.

That's the problem. I personally have no quarrel trying to come up with
a list of sanctioned names, but, that may be completely irrelevant since
your lawyer might just disagree with what my lawyer says. And since I
can't give legal information, I'm better off saying "sorry, talk to your
lawyer".
I'm not doing that to piss off everyone. I'm doing it so that people
understand that even people like me on the Intel MeeGo release team
probably can't even help you, even if we wanted to.
