Dear Quim, thanks for the overview of the current brainstorming. There are some ideas to add: Meego is the only open source operating system for mobile, if we do not look at symbian, for which no developers are active and android, which is a google channel and tracking system.
1. Make sure, meego never will have a tracking ID to any distributor in its core. Furthermore, Ubuntu has such great success, because the community is supporting it and making makreting by mouth. We need as well a vision for meego, to be honest, open, not tracking, friendly, not commercialized, no magazin abonnement hunting thing nocking on the door. Please creat this friendly face of meego. Third, ans that is the most important: We need no force to have a one stop shop to buy apps. Iphone does not allow to provide apps, they have not qualityapproved. Windows phone will have as well an approval for apps Andoid is commercial and as well one stop shop, for symbian there are no apps and bada will be jus swallowing money and bring out no real apps. We need a decentral model for meego app download location. Everyone must be allowed to easily pack an installer for any meego app. Can you guarantee that? Freedom in this direction is for me the main key to have a marketing success of meego beside the image of the brand to be open source, not forcing and tracking and beeing a real honest, not evil and commercial thing. To operationalize that, here is my suggestion. I want in sourceforge.net a category in the operating system search field, to filter all sf.net apps for those with the operating system meego. Please contact the people from sf.net and make sure, that is initiated until end of the year. Then users can filter for meego apss there, which are open source and born by the community. That has the biggest markting effect, as the pioneers will multiplicate the sense of meego. The worst approach that could happen, that meego is expelling partners, who want to distribute meego apps. So the success is, if you always post: this list is the developer list, please go away, or, if you say, well, developers have as well a coffee pause and should consider the feedback of the community, in which context meego is regarded currently. I even do not know, if the merge with intel team was a successful one. And when dell is allowed to bring meego on the dell streak phone. (And why there is no money to do that professional by nokia employees). So please think about the behaviour, of your , intels and nokia behaviour, to partners and suppliers and developers out of the community. I suggest to develop guidelines for how we work together. How a student with an idea for a cool meego app is praised and set into the foreground, or how he never gets a chance, to have his new app placed at the top rating of new incomming meego apps. My fourth idea would be: dont spent money on marketing, Just sell, why is nokia always to late? my n8 has still not arrived, all my department colleagues ask my, if my n8 arrived. it did not... That is the best marketing nokia can get, besides the question why to buy nokia, to have given up germany and moving to romania years ago. That is still active. Again something about partners, as well as the ceo conflict. Just sell means: We needs a: Meego Phone, a Meego Tab and a Meego 22" TV Screen for computers, but with DVB-T integrated, which is steered by the meego os. We need that, before apple is bringing out the Apple TV Box. And before Android is on the Samsung TV Screen. Just be in time. So to sum: Be friendly, be in time with innovation and be decentral. That is a marketing strategy! To make ads and have different Target groups.. that is really a (s)tragedy. :-) So maybe you want to add this idea, of decentral shops for meego apps?`sourceforge and softpedia would be a good initiative.
