Would it be possible for us to be a bit more specific about the default/supported set? The set of codecs that require licensing contracts certainly vary from country to country. To be correct, I shouldn't say "require a license" or "require a contract," but more something relative to the likelihood of getting sued, as nobody can ever really get a bulletproof "license" to a particular codec, given the number of software patents that could read on the codec. In that vein, I know that representatives of the MPEG-LA have made vague threats against both Ogg Theora and WebM, however I hope that given the shared goals between MeeGo and other FOSS projects, Theora, Vorbis, VP8, and the Ogg and Matroska containers will all be supported by MeeGo right out of the box. I think it could be very helpful to have a wiki page listing supported codecs (and perhaps other supported formats, e.g. image formats) for Meego. I think we're going to hear this question come up often!
