Now that we have anice offer from TI to get Pandaboards into the hands
of developers [1] it's time as Quim suggested to get serious about the
Community Device Program [2]. I will repost some of the wiki content
here followed by my thoughts and questions:

Overview

  * Community members will apply to get access to devices

  * We will have detailed requirements, selection criteria and approval
    process

  * All devices is this program are production hardware (no pre-release
    silicon)

  * See timeline for more details

I recommend we define a requirement for "Community member in good
standing" (not specific to this or any other program, but part of Terms
of Service perhaps) to describe eligible community members, for a start.

Of course remaining selection criteria is still an open question,
although the Maemo process offers a good beginning [3].

I do disagree with the production device requirement though. Prototypes
should be allowed also, and if this program is to include Beagleboards,
Pandaboards, et al, then the requirement certainly needs to be broadened
(or subcategorized).

Timeline and Task List

  * 11/08/10 Figure out a budget for this program and get it in our plans
    for 2011

  * 11/10/10 Talk to the Linux Foundation about details and
    administration of this program

I am wondering what budget? I imagine most of this will be per
individual contributing companies, eg Intel, TI, Nokia, et al. Unless we
are just talking a program administrative budget? If so, what would that
cover other than devices?

We have TI ready to provide Pandaboards (3 to 5 total in December) to
developers (I will find out from TI if that is a broad number only or if
we can identify a set specific to Meego). Will they need to channel this
effort through the LF? Do we have someone yet from the Linux Foundation
to take this one on? If not, are they hiring? I know someone
well-qualified. :D

Anyway let's get this one unstuck! I will gladly pitch in where I can.
I'm currently trying to figure out a better format for the wiki page...
