hey wait. It is not _that_ simple to get rid of X at this point on MeeGo.
For instance, just by input device event processing you mentioned, there's a
lot of stuff that X provides like device keys mapping properly, cursor
acceleration, multi-touch and gestures, devices configuration, output and
input devices hotplug, automatic configuration, devices and user session
pairing etc. Applications and session security, application memory resources
testing, analysis and debugging are a few of other that come to my mind.
So, eventually, we will want to squash this all somehow in our Wayland
implementation. But again, it's not trivial at the moment.
