On desktop, you can use xrandr to change backlight.
i.e, xrandr --output LVDS1 --set BACKLIGHT 10

You can get the backlight levels by run "xrandr --prop", and check the
BACKLIGHT property.

Actually the backlight is adjusted via ACPI in this case.
