Right -- the UX designers' verdict was that the systray is prone to
abuse and actually causes more problems than it solves. For apps that
can't be fixed, like skype, the matchbox panel is provided. For
everything else, proper integration into the netbook UX and notification
system is recommended.

If you're developing an app for which it is justifiable to permanently
take up a little part of the screen, you probably want to look at adding
a toolbar panel.
