Well I figured I should put something here to back up my claim 
and make the extent of the problem more visible.
I have been monitoring many OBS' for availability to get a better
understanding of what's going on and this is a time frame where
I have the most data (previous weeks should be consistent with it):

The first two are for MeeGo core OBS. 
Compare the API/source-service/obs-link availability with the http
Availability of the same host (build and api are the same host AFAICT).

Then contrast this with the exact same monitoring executed on:
- MeeGo community OBS
- Maemo OBS (provides harmattan target to COBS)
- openSUSE OBS


Adam has been quite helpful in getting closer to the core of the problem,
but I have the feeling RE as a whole still does not understand
the extent and impact of this problem and thus it's somewhere below
idle priority. (Note IMHO this should also impact availability of core OBS
itself not only the link to community OBS. Did anyone see builds fail?)

Yes community is one of the most visibly impacted. This should impact
also vendors running links etc.

MeeGo core OBS being a 9to5 operation does not really build trust in
MeeGo as a whole and I really hope someone finally takes notice and
starts cleaning up the mess that has been building up in MeeGo recently.
