Let's try to be clearer then. The XFCE repository seems to always have
been the "upstream" version. That's the one distributed in all the other
distributions (and the one distributed in MeeGo before a few days ago, I
was the one packaging it first there), the one receiving l10n commits
for instance and finally the one referred as "upstream" in the maemo
fork, see a commit from today from instance:

"Fix copyright in Makefile.am and configure.ac, to match upstream"

Now if you add the fact that the maemo version breaks the thumbnailing
specification for good but incompatible reasons (eg. saving thumbnails
as JPEG), I don't think anyone can have a doubt on which version is the
upstream one, regardless of the merit of Nokia helping tumbler in the
first place.

The current version breaks the specified use of a thumbnailing service
and thus breaks the applications that depend on it. It's not a
rhetorical issue, it actually breaks what I'm working on. I don't see
any other path than reverting the forked version and work with upstream
to integrate maemo patches (amending the spec?, pushing the quill
plugins upstream? if not possible out of tree plugins instead? etc...)

Does reverting the last tumbler commit sound like a sensible option to
everyone?
