What happens when you run configure after you run this?:

setenv LDFLAGS "-L/home/cstevens/installers/hdf5-1.6.5/hdf5/lib"

Dear list members,
I'm trying to install meep and keep running into the same problem.
During the configure step I get the following error:

WARNING: Couldn't find the HDF5 library!! Switching to --without-hdf5.

I have in fact installed the HDF5 library by running the installer from
the hdf5 website for linux (I am running suse10.0)

At the end of the HDF5 install I get the following cryptic message:
Libraries have been installed in:
   /home/cstevens/installers/hdf5-1.6.5/hdf5/lib

If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
   - add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
     during execution
   - add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
     during linking
   - use the `-Wl,--rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
   - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf'

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for
more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

I do not have a clue what do with this information - how can I tell the
meep configure command where the hdf5 libraries are - I've added the
location to /etc/ld.so.conf but nothing has changed. I haven't a clue
how I should use libtool to my advantage here but as I've never really
instaleld from sources before it's probably my lack of knowledge here.

Can anyone help me out with a pointer of how to get over this hurdle ?

best regards

Chris
