Hi Henry,

I asked the same questions not too long ago, and Steven sent a reply.

Dear all,

I have some problems about simulating metal film in meep.

After I declare "metal" as material (suppose to be perfect metal), I use
output-epsilon together with h5totxt to print out epsilon function.

In fact, I have a line (set! eps-averaging? false) <- no averaging

however, the output is still like
1,1.090909090909091,2.4,inf,inf,inf, ... ,inf,inf,2.4,1.090909090909091,1

I guess for perfect metal, it should be -inf. It doesn't seem like a h5totxt
print error because every things are positive here. Moreover, I suppose there
is no eps averaging when I set eps-averageing to false. Are there still other
controls parameters to subpress averaging?

Now if I use dispersive material to pretend metal, a negative value on
dielectric const will blow out the simulation. I guess it is the averaging
issue but how can I completely turn off averaging?

I hope my newb questions will be answered and other novices can avoid my
mistakes I have made.

Regards,
Henry
