If you're not sure what is going on with harminv, the best thing to do is 
usually to run it again with a narrow-bandwidth source around the resonant 
frequency.  Not only is harminv more accurate given a narrow-bandwidth 
source that just excites the mode of interest, but also this way you can 
look at the field pattern and try to understand what (if anything) has 
changed.

(Most likely, harminv just wasn't converged properly in your case.)

You can do that now. Just add multiple flux regions recording the flux in 
the X, Y, and Z directions, and then add the results together weighted by 
the X/Y/Z components of a unit vector in your desired direction.
