Dear Meep Users,

I have doubt on the interpretation and convention of Q-factor and its
calculation. It is well known that the harminv gives the resoant modes,
their decay rates and Quality factors of a
cavity system accurately.

Especially for a photonic cavity, the intrinsic Q factor are of the order of
10^7 to 10^9. MEEP(Harminv) and other commercial software such as CST gives
this Q-factor (analyzing pulse decay inside the cavity) correctly. However,
the spectroscopic Q-factor (Q=f/del(f)) is always very lesser than the
Q(energy decay).

I request anyone to tell about the differences between the Q-factor formulas
and its origin and usage.

For example, is it correct to say that Q=f/del(f) is coupled or a loaded
Q-factor ?
