I still haven't found a resolution for this, but I think I see where things are going bad. It looks like the configure script is looking for the library link "-lpng" but that should be "-lpng15" according to the output from running "/usr/X11/bin/libpng-config --libs". Is there a way to alias "-lpng" to "-lpng15" so that the configure script finds the library?
