Hej ! No, from what I understand, you do not need to define a as a parameter. Just remember that you want to use your base length as 1mu, so as an example, when you use things such as
(make lattice (size 16 8 no-size)) you mean each value in microns. It's up to you to do the conversions for wavelength (in microns too) and frequency.
