Dear meep users and maintainers,

During the last week I have had to reinstall a working meep/h5utils on both a
pc box running ubuntu 17.10 and on an iMac running macOS High Sierra (version
10.13.6). Meep and all its dependencies seem to install ok following the
instructions posted by Ardavan on Wed. 26 July 2017 four ubuntu (and an
adaptation of them for the macOS). However now I see on both operating systems
the same error when meep tries to open an hdf5 file. The first error one sees
is shown below. Configure can find the hdf5 library and the "make checkā€ of
hdf5-1.8.14 passes all its tests.

If anybody has a clue as to what is going on here, I would be grateful for any
suggestions.

Best regards

John
