Hi Derek,

Unfortunately, it is happening with any program that tries to open an hdf5 
file.  What is strange is that the identical installation procedure with this 
version of HDF5 worked with no problem in July 2017, and now it does not. On 
the iMac I tried installing HDF5 via Homebrew (one of the Mac package 
handlers), but the compiler complains of “unknown symbols” in that case….the 
reason probably being that Homebrew always installs the latest version of any 
software, not HDF5-1.8.14, and that the latest version is incompatible with the 
compiler.
