John: You raise a good point and an excellent "education opportunity."

All survey responses are posted on the CSMFO web site and kept there for two years (we
don't want to keep this for too long; it gets stale and the results may no longer be
valid).

This is under (appropriately enough) "Survey Results" on our home page (or:
www.csmfo.org/surveys). And the most recent surveys are always in "What's New."

The results are organized into the following main categories (which pretty much follow
the same organization as the "resource room").

o Accounting and Financial Reporting
o Budgeting
o Expense Management
o Fiscal Policies
o Investments
o Miscellaneous
o Payroll and Human Resources
o Revenue Management
o Technology
o Travel Policies

Additionally, survey request guidelines are also provided in this section.

And this raises another point: before sending out a survey request, check both "Survey
Results" and the "Resource Room" for your topic: the answers you're looking for may
already be there!

Hope this is helpful. Please call me at 805.781.7125 (or email me ) if you have any
questions.

Since getting on this list I've probably seen 50 surveys done, several of
which I've responded to. Most of these fit the category of good information
that I don't need right now and will probably want when I'm dealing with
this issue in the future. Unfortunately, by then I will have probably
forgotten the source. My only option then is to put these in an electronic
folder and take up computer space or ditto with paper. My sugestion is to
keep a running page on the CSMFO web site listing all surveys with a icon
for each to open and if appropriate print. The listing should, as a minimum,
have the description of the data,eg. "Comp days allowed" the preparer and
the date the survey was completed.
I don't need a direct response to this but would like to see some discussion
on the group email if you think this would be a good or bad idea. (Paul,
I've CCed you since I'm not sure if you are on the list.)
