I think they are identical switches and you dont need the O/D switch to retard your dizzy.  Swap them.
Are you sure you haven't wiped off the connections on the tunnel wall?  This can be an "interference fit" if you dont relieve the tunnel in this area or offset the box slightly.

        I have just installed a dogleg 5 spd in my P510 and the reversing light switch is stuffed, but the O/drive switch is good.  Can these switches be changed around?  Also would like to know the O/drive ratio, if anyone can help?
