Wayne,
Nice to hear from you again - It's getting a bit late so I'll get back to you another time off list on the rellies. Would you believe the workshop manual doesn't have a picture of a diff spring mounting bar. If you are totally confused by what i have written here, i'll grab the digi camera from work and take a pic which has got to be clearer than describing how to fit the bar but here goes. There is more than one type of leaf spring and also to complicate things a bit more there are more than one type of insulator so i've split this up a bit to hopefully cover the bases. Leaf Type 1
Leaf Type 2. This one doesn't have different sides as such and just looks like an inch or so wide for the whole length. With this type you have to look at the insulators. The insulators are also forward of the attachment point on the diff just like type 1. Leaf Insulators. There are a variety of types in both rubber & nolathane. The insulator is fitted through the end holes but only one way. The protruding rubber bit goes to the bottom side of the bar so you can see the metal surround on the top of the end hole and the bottom of the end hole has the rubber insulator covering the edge of the hole. (you may have to read this with a bar in hand to see what i am trying to describe here) General comments.
Before you fit the bar to the diff, make sure the attachment studs are tight as loose studs will tear the thread out of the alloy case when you tension the nuts and that's the end if that - JY visit. You should have 4 x 17 mm nuts, 2 x ~2" washers and 2 x ~1" washers. Each pair of nuts are quite different in appearance. The thinner nuts are used to attach the bar to the diff, and the longer nuts go onto the insulator studs. The large washer goes on first, then the small washer then the longer nut that sometimes has a nylon locker inside. Hope you can follow all this, it wasn't that easy to explain so i've hopefully not missed anything (:- regards
