Steve,
The thermostat for a Z18t is the same spec as the stock L18 or L18SSS i.e.
180F 82C and i recommend that you run one. Datsun waterpumps are fairly
high flow so the water temp will be too cold in winter (engine wear) and
too high in very hot weather as a radiator is a heat exchanger and if the
water is ripping through the core too quickly, the heat exchange process
breaks down. You should also run a working cap (CPC 508/13) or preferably
fit a return system (CPC 543/13) with an A grade coolant (Castrol af/ab).
Corollas (75-85) that are at pick-a-parts everywhere have a very compact
system that's a popular conversion used for a stock 1600 radiator. On the
Toy the return bottle is located on the passenger side of the firewall
strut and you need the bracket and the 2 x 10 mm mounting bolts.

If your overheating, I'd be looking at the radiator for blockages etc. as
the Z18t engine and a 510 2 core radiator usually works.

regards
terry
