Optimax is Shell's replacement for its Premium Unleaded. It actually has a minimum RON of 98. A mate of mine who works as a chemist for Mobil, has been routinely testing the stuff (nothing like knowing what the competition is doing) and haven't come across a sample of anything less than 99RON up to 101 RON. It contains additional additives for cleaning injectors etc. It also contains a lubricant that is designed for upper cylinder, multi valve head, multiple cams etc. I use it my WRX and have noticed a bitter better mid throttle response as well as a bit further out each tank.
Melbourne has it generally available. Perth has a similar product called Ultimate(?) which comes out of the BP Kwinana refinery. Sydney is getting it at the moment with one confirmed station, Shell servo at the corner of Military Road and Winnie Street, Cremorne.
