My boot rim has rusted pretty badly, although I don't know about any intentional
holes to release water. Fortunately the flat surface around the boot rim was OK so
I went to clark rubber and found something I thought would do the job. Stuck it to
the boot lid so that as the lid closes the rubber contacts on the flat area around
the rim. No sign of further rust in the last two years. Just used a bit of contact
adhesive on both the rubber and lid and stuck it on. Moisture isn't held under the
rubber and every time you open the boot the other surface gets a chance to breath.
