Best deal I've seen of late has been a 180SX frontcut at Adelaide Jap for $2800. That was with the CA18DET and 5 speed. Looked OK too. Dunno if they are still available - they had two.

 

Halfcut is definitely the way to go if you are capable/willing to sort out the wiring - it's not that hard if you have half a brain and patience. You should get the intercooler and plumbing (often broken), fusebox, relays, wiring, sensors, airflow meter, airbox, BOV, alternator, starter motor, ignitor, instruments etc. and often the front struts/brakes.

 

And the best part is that you can check the dash for how many k's are on it! (unless some bastard has turned it back - although I think this is more likely if you are buying a whole car - hardly worth it on a 1/2 cut).

 

If you get a 1/2 cut make sure nothing crucial is missing - that's the reason you are paying the big bucks for a 1/2 cut - so you get all the bits. Igniters and airflow meters can run into hundreds of dollars. Always check that the ECU is there too - they sometimes get pinched. If anything is missing haggle 'til it hurts or make sure they supply a replacement part BEFORE you pay them the full amount.

Yes, if you get the front half you get the whole box and dice from roughly just forward of the B pillar. It's a brutal process, they must have loads of fun doing it - most of the ones i've seen have been gas axed.

BTW, what model Nissan are you looking at getting with a FJ and is it a Turbo or NA. 1/2 cuts for a DR30 RS last time I looked started at around $4000 -$4500 but a Gazelle with megga damage and a high mileage FJ NA might be down around the $2000 mark these days.
