I broke two 4 speeds behind my a15.  Along with 3 clutches and 3 diffs.  I dont think my heavy right foot helped much.

Yeah I would agree. My present box has been destroyed by me. Mind you it wasn't to flash before I started. It taken a pretty hard beating....I'd be interested to see how many teeth are left on reverse...haha

Good adviceit sounds like u are extremely heavy footed or maybe u have an alignment problem between your engine mounts and the g/box mounts..i've seen some dreadful things done to datto g/boxes over the years - icl running them without oil..they are very very strong (usually)when u put the next one in take notice whether u have to move the g/box sideways at all to get the g/box mount to line up ( do u ever have engine mounts break?)cheersmick

HI LISTMy 75 120Y Coupe with an A-12 with twin SU's has gone through 5 gearboxes within the last 6 months. I am still a school student who is lucky to earn $150 a week. In all of them the selector buggers up and the main bearings go, and to get rebuilt costs an arm and a leg. I've tried a 5 speed out of a sunny, and the same. I am thinking of changing over to a standard auto, to do this what needs to be changed? eg,flywheel, tailshaft, etc. Could I get away with leaving the normal pedals in it, and just disconnecting the clutch pedal? Are there any other cheap autos that bolt straight on? JessTIA
