I'm not sure what you mean, but if my K&N had been any taller (to accomodate the ram tubes), it would have hit the strut tower.
The ram tubes would have fit, but the gap between the chrome piece at the top and the ram tube would have restricted air flow.

u must be using the thinner style of K&N filter...
there is a K&N filter which will fit the ram tubes inside   i have them...

based on my experiences with a single weber:
I had a k&n filter (no ram tubes) for over a year, then I got given some ram tubes. I put them on and the difference was big enough to warrant using crappy $15 finer filter sock filters. and as a result my $120 k&n filter sits unused!
No ram tubes would fit under the k&n. I think with webers or anything for that matter, ramtubes or similar are essential.

What would be the best air filters to put on twin webbers to extract max performance?  I am currently using the ram tubes(short ones) with four air socks.  A mate of mine is using the proper box filters on his twin webber set-up which was prescribed by a guy at the performance shop where he buys his parts from.  Is it true that you don't use the ram tubes with the box type filters?  To me that reduces the effect of fuel/air mixing as I've always thought that the tubes greatly increase the effect of the fuel and air mixing.  This is due to the tubes "tuning" the air flowing into the carbs.  What are the advantages and disagvantages to both?
