I believe that if you've blown a head gasket, then usually the next thing to
go is the main bearings, and usually in conjunction with siezing the motor.
If you wanna check, pull the sump off, undo the main bearings and check if
the pistons still move.

I have a L20 block that did a head gasket, but the pistons still move ok,
and it had a mile of compression shortly before doing the head gasket. You
can bolt on the L18 head to the L20 block and have a absolutely wicked 2
litre with tons of compression!!!
I am probably wanting to sell it though, coz it's still allright and has
only been out of the car for about 3 weeks. It also has a nice electronic
dizzy as well.
I am not asking for much money, as the only thing I require at the moment is
a instrument cluster to suit a series 2 blurbird TRX. It's the electronic
cluster I'm after. I found one for $80, so If I can get enough to cover the
cost of the new cluster then I'm a happy camper.
I am in Sydney though, and you'd have to arrange to pick it up.

Subject: seized L18

list,
I recently purchased a 180B with standard engine, very cheap.
My problem is that the engine had a blown head gasket. Easily fixed.
It has now had an oil change also. The old oil looked like chocolate
milk, ewww.
Now my next problem is that the engine won't turn over, and my guess is
that the bearings may have rusted.
Would the bottom end still be useful if i can get it cranked over a few
times or would the bearings be useless??
I am waiting for a tailshaft so i can attempt to roll start it as the
starter is not strong enough to kick it over.
Anyone got a spare L18 block they want to donate to a fellow Datsun
owner/lover???
