The normal type of BOV's recirculate the air. There is no need to vent the excess air to atmosphere, except to make cool turbo sounds. By allowing the air to escape to atmosphere the computer is fooled into thinking there is heaps of air going into the cylinders and dumps heaps of fuel, which is not good for fuel economy or your spark plugs. As long as your BOV is big enough to flow the amount of air you are looking at running in you performance range then there is no reason not to buy recirculating types.
