>By the way what are twin Su's?
The SU carb is a British-origin carburettor, single throat side-draft with a
'constant-vacuum' system instead of the accelerator pump found in most carbs
( so what, I hear you ask ).
More importantly, the 1600 SSS ( and 180B SSS ) came factory fitted with two
38mm bore SU carbs mounted on a balanced 2-into-4 manifold with 38mm intake
runners. The US Datsun owners love them to death, Webers seem to be the preferred
choice for OzDat revheads ( sorry - 'enthusiasts' ).
My L20b ran great for ages on a set of 38mm SUs, but they have problems with
the needle & seat arrangement, causing a really crap idle and plug fouling.
Hence, Webers going back on asap.
Also, 240Z and 260Z came with 46mm SUs which can be fitted to a slightly modified
1600 SSS manifold. Provided they're adequately serviced & tuned to begin with
they should be a damn good setup, but two 45mm or 48mm Webers on a suitable
manifold are the hot setup for big-rev power. Unless you fork out $1600 for
a set of 55DCO/SP Webers from DatRats ( drooooool ).
enough, more than enough even,
DF
