Title: Re: 1600 electrics

It seems that after getting an alarm installed by a certain Adelaide workshop beginning with T and ending with onkins my headlights only work when the car is stationary.  They flicker on and off really fast as the car accelerates, and by the time it hits 60 the lights are out as is the whole instrument binnacle (except for the indicator lights, which are both on solid)  The fuel gauge and temperature guage both go off the scale (which scared the living crap outta me as you could imagine... thought I was out of coolant and crawled home the other night!)

Could this have something to do with the alarm having being spliced into the indicator circuit to give a nice flash when I arm and disarm it or just a plain old shoddy job? Or is this par-for-course for a 29 year old 1600..... has anybody had similar problems?

Oh and sometimes the tacho bounces from left to right!

I swear it was *all* okay before they got stuck into it!!

Hi Tom,
Take the car back to them, and get them to fix it properly. I had a similar problem getting an alarm put into my old 1600. It used to go off all the time, and it did funny things to my blinkers. It turned out they had done a really bad job of putting the boot and bonnet sensors in. They had also drilled a large hole to install the rear boot sensor, which made my boot leak, I was not happy. So this time round I bought a jaycar alarm and installed it myself, unfortunately this seems like the only way to get  a job done properly.

James.
