Hold the phone and DON'T cut anything just yet as something is very wrong
here. The length of the standard 1600 sedan tailshaft is 1090 mm and it is
the perfect length for a Stanza 5spd box which is the identical length as a
1600 4 speed. You measure the tailshaft from the centre of the front uni to
the centre of the rear uni.
Can you measure you're tailshaft and let me know what you get.
OK, I've done this conversion some many times I've lost count and you don't
have to cut the shaft as long as you really have a stock length 1600 shaft
to begin with. The only time I recall I struck trouble was on a wagon which
is imported and has a Japanese shaft. The dust cover on the front yoke on
these is very small and will fowl the extension housing on many gearboxes
except the 1600 4 speed. Lose the cover if this is the problem or get an
Australian made shaft, usually sky blue. The black shafts are usually the
Japanese ones but a lot of ppl paint their shaft black so the colour of the
shaft is not what you'd call reliable.

Just a quick note to say, SORRY, but the STANZA SSS BOX needs one inch or
24.5 mm taken out of the tailshaft for a datsun P510, (auto or manual). This
means that this conversion is not quite 'bolt-in'.
