Eddie,
This is where it starts to get confusing and a lot depends on budget, availability and price of turbos and turbo components in your country and your requirements for now and the future. You say you want 260-280 HP.This can be easily achieved using the right combinations. The Sierra Cosworth motors and FJ20's have similar power characteristics so someone at Graham Goode racing should be able to build the right set up.They have T3's available that will flow 300HP with heavy duty thrust bearings etc. They also do T3/TO4B and T3/TO4E hybrid turbo that will flow up to 500HP. The T3's start at around $1000 aus. The new generation ball bearing T25 turbos will flow 280-450HP depending on the model and I would guess they would spool up fairly quick being so small but fitting one of these would require a new manifold. If I wasonly after 280HP I would fit a T3 with a .6 comp housing, super 60 trim comp wheel, .63 turbine housing and the Sierra RS500 type turbine wheel and 360 deg thrust bearing. This combination could be easily upgraded later to flow 400HP by fitting a TO4E comp housing, backing plate, 60 trim wheel.
Turbonetics Inc. Have a look at there on line catelogue.

Andrew,

I am planning to go with an aftermarket ECU, intercooler etc.I'm hoping to
be able to get, say 260-280 bhp eventually. The plan is to sort out the
right turbo now to go with the planned modifications. That's why I thought
it best to ask as I didn't want to waste money on rebuilding this turbo if
I'd be better of with another type in the long run. That looks the case
here. What would have a T4 from the factory then or is it a mostly
aftermarket unit?

Thanks for the advise,

Eddie
