Main problem is that you've already paid for it, paying a fine is equivalent
to saying "I'm guilty".

Try writing a letter and enclose a statutory declaration saying you sold the
car and the only reason you paid the fine is that you were intimidated into
paying it because you couldn't afford to loose your licence.

if worse comes to worse, make an appointment to see a chamber magistrate at
your local court and ask him for advice.
