Why, are you going to turbo it otherwise you'll have worse performance than
a CA16 gives now and believe me they are no powerhouse engine. They just are
simply not designed for performance applications, more like economical to
produce shopping carts. Nissan has designed most of it's small engines in
the 90's to just be smaller bore versions of the 2 litre, so you aint going
to get them to perform that well without forced induction, the GA16 series
is more under square than the CA, the SR16 is a mystery to me as I don't
have any data handy.
This is why ppl go to such extremes to race little Nissans with Piazza & 20v
Toy engines. I think you're close to being better off with an L series in a
510 if your going to do the under 1600cc atmo class.

CA16: 78mm x 83.5mm 1596cc
CA18: 83mm x 83.5mm 1807cc (funny size but i'm sure it's correct)
CA20: 84.5mm x 87mm 1952cc

I just thought that you may be able to use the head and intake from the
CA18 onto the CA16 block. So you will have a CA18 block with a CA18 twin
cam head, and CA18 intake and exhaust manifolds. As this will allow you to
have RWD components on a 1600 block with twin cam. I haven't done this
before but I know there is a CA16 motor. Nissan is usually pretty good
using common casts for their blocks so at least all of the stuff will bolt
up. It may be a different setup inside like the VG20 v VG30 are or it may
be the same like the L16 v L18. Which may mean that you will be stuck with
the 1600 internals instead of upping the volume to 1.8L using the CA18
bits. What class are you racing in? Do they check swept volume or just go
on the block size? Also I seem to remember that the CA18 had a volume of
1.848L so you might want to check the volume of the CA16 is not higher than
1.600L. There used to be a link on the SSSautomotive site which listed
volume of engines but the page is gone so I can't check. I hope this is of
