Rick,
My exact dilemma, only mine is currently "Poo Brown" or Kalahari Tan, so the
change colour decision was easy. My solution is to give it a total repaint
in something closely resembling another original colour, ie red, white blue
or black - not Brown.
I'm going for Glossy Black (without metallic mix). Its an original colour,
looks great with all the extra SSS chrome bits and badges, and reinforces
that the body is straight.
If I wasn't choosing an original dark colour I would consider Moonlight
Blue, (almost black), Deep Burgundy, or Stark White. Red also looks good
(e.g. Fords Monza Red) but I've had enough red cars.
I have seen your car's colour (light blue) in a quality 2 Pak repaint and it
looks very good with quality mags to lift it. Repainting in original means
you may avoid full repainting of interior, boot and internal doors and
jambs.
Colour is a tough choice.
Dont sandblast, its too hard on the panels and stress relieves the surface,
warping the flat panels. My "panel advisor" who is a well respected paint
refinisher of collector cars, says bead blast only if and where necessary.
Leave the original enamel paint intact wherever it is in original condition,
it wont flake off. Simply thoroughly prepare for over painting by sanding
back the surface and undercoating over it. A painfully slow job. Of course
you need to go back to bare metal if there is existing, or past poorly
repaired, damage on the panel. Use the bead blasting on these bits, but only
by someone who knows how to do it without distorting panels.
The recent list discussion on two PAC paint has convinced me to spend the
bucks on this finish, by a professional using a booth.

Subject: Colour advise wanted.
> Hea there everyone.
> As most of you out there will know I picked up a totally original but aged
1600 SSS sedan a few months ago.
> I sold my sedan to help get the ball rolling on the total restoration I
have planned for it.
> I have picked up original rustfree and dent free doors, bonnet and boot
and passenger fender for it.
> I only wish to find a drivers fender to complete the restore.
> Plans I have are to strip it down to just a shell and have the whole lot
sandblasted. (shell,doors,fenders,bonnet and boot).
> I am thinking I am going to keep it stock as all the numbers match (ie
engine numbers chassie ect ect.)
> Now the problem I have is wether to respray her in the stock light blue or
to go a little radical and make her stand out as did my much missed orange
beastie did.
> Any how any advice from all of you out there would be muchly appreciated.
> Thanks in advance.
