Sam,
As you are installing your gauges in the radio hole in dash you have the
wires you need close at hand. The big blue wire that powered the radio and
the heater fan is perfect to power your gauges, it's on the accessory
circuit but that's ok. All you need is an earth and any of the black wires
that earth the radio or cig lighter are fine. Sounds like you've got the
senders sussed so see how you go. Have you got a test light or better still
a multi-meter. It's a good idea to be able to test what's coming out of a
wire and when (i.e. ign, acc or batt) before you hook up exy gauges.

regards
Terry

Subject: newbie probs. (gauges, bearings)

I apolise in advance if the answers to some of my questions are painfully
obvious, but before owning my 1600 i had never raised a bonnet on a car! so
please bear with me.

Could somebody give me some advice on how to wire up aftermarket gauges. I
have 3 VDO gauges, temperature, volts and oil press. Ive made a little pod
for them where the radio used to be but i cannot make heads nor tails of the
instructions that came with them. I can get them to work by connecting pos
to the pos battery terminal, neg to the neg battery terminal, and the other
(eg temp, press) to the appropriate sender. only problem is, they stay on
whether the ignition is on or not, plus i have a mess of wires going to and
from the battery. i believe i need to wire them through the key barrel, but
how?

Also, how do i replace a rear wheel bearing? And is this an item that is
readily available at a general auto shop, eg. Autopro, autobahn etc.?

thanks in advance
sam
