Anthony,
The standard Nissan head gasket is good as long as it's installed correctly.
Make absolutely sure that the head bolts are torqued using the best quality
wrench you can get hold of, be careful to follow the correct sequence and
torque down cycles. By cycles I mean 1st time round the sequence (bolts 1 to
10) at 30 ft/lbs, 2nd 45 ft/lbs and 3rd 65ft/lbs and also make sure you do
the re-torque at the prescribed interval ~600 miles (1000 ks)
On monotorque gaskets - I've found over a long period of time that you can
use them on troublesome heads that have a history of blowing gaskets
especially L16 Stanza, L20B in 200B, RB30 in Skyline, the L18 engine is not
what I'd call an engine that's particularly prone to blowing gaskets. I've
always had very high success rate with a monotorque, I can't even recall
ever blowing one.
regards
Terry

Thankyou Terry, Tom and others.
I've heard mixed reports about the monotorque head gaskets you suggested, I
have already picked up a standard one suitable for the engine, I assume
these are still good to use.
