I have been looking at photos of some of the
listers cars and noticed some daggy looking cracked dash pads.
Here's a suggestion.
Recently I had to swap a dash pad
and I found they are very simple to remove and replace in
the 70/72 design. Using an 8mm socket and removing 6 retaining nuts
after taking out the instrument cluster and the glove box.- both
easy.
When the dash pad is removed it can be covered with
a strip of thin foam rubber. Then a piece of stretch black vinyl
(cost $6) can be pulled over the top and stuck to the underside using contact
adhesive ($4 a tin). If you pull and stick the vinyl correctly you will
have no wrinkles and it will look very original.
Refit the pad back on the metal dash top. It
will look new, and $10 is much cheaper than a "reskinned" dash pad.
A friend has done his 68 model this way. It
is a much harder design to cover as you have you cut darts and stitch them
at the ends to fit the more complex curved design. His dash looks like the
rest of the car - craftsman built.
