Can you weld? Do you have oxy or a mig (migs are best for this sort of job
IMHO)? If so, get a piece of 3 inch exhaust pipe about 10 inches long (and
hopefully 3mm wall thickness or so). Cut a round plate out of a piece of
3mm steel, 3 inches for one end and weld it on. Find an old fuel rail or
some carbie fittings (you'll need 3 fittings) and cut the barbed ends off,
leaving about an inch or so before the barb itself. Drill 3 holes (of the
same diameter of your fittings) in the pipe: two at the top of the pipe
(just above where you just welded the plate on) spaced about an inch apart
vertically. Then drill another hole 2 or 3 mm from the open end. Now get
your barbs and weld/braze them in the holes, extending 2 or 3mm into the
pipe. If you have welded it you may have distored the barbs, so get a
drill bit slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the barb, and re
drill it out - CAREFULLY. Now, it will be full of spatter and crap, so
block up all the barbs and fill it full of degreaser to wash it out. Then
flush out all the barbs. Rinse and let it dry. Then get a square piece of
3 mm thick steel plate, which has a length/width about 5mm bigger then the
diameter of the pipe. Weld it on. Finally drill some mounting holes in
the over hanging bits. Now looking at the tank: the single hole near the
mounting flange (the bigger of the 2 plates you welded on) is your outlet
to your pump. The very top hole is your return line to the fuel tank. The
second top hole is your feed to the surge tank. Paint it, mount it and
you're done.......

Cheers

Tim

Does anyone have a design for a surge tank?.

I am looking to put one in my rally car after suffering from fuel
starvation at an autocross where all the loops went the same way(taking
fuel away from the pickup).

Thanks for anyones help.
