Leigh,
A kit is probably they way to go but a lot would depend on budget and how much
work you can do yourself and how much HP you want. The standard bottom end will
cop a bit of punishment.Mine is 60,000miles old and still going strong.I would
suggest a compression ratio of 8:1 or less.$600 for the manifolding sounds
fair.Make sure if you do a suck thru set up you get a turbo with a carbon
seal.Webers can be made to work in a suck thru set up but they are harder to
setup than SU's or CD's.Turbo needles are available for SU's and CD's.I use an
oxygen sensor in the exhaust that works with the Jaycar meter to help tune the
CD's.Blow thru setups are much harder to tune unless you buy a kit thats pretty
much setup.Fueling requirements can be quite critical on these.A good spark is
essential and I would recomend an electronic dizzy that is regraphed to
suit. Then there's the usual things like oil supply to the turbo, oil drain from
the turbo to the sump, larger exhaust, colder plugs, fuel pump etc.I swear by water
injection.I had my boost to 25psi the other day while playing with wastegate
springs with no detonation on 98 octane fuel.Although I wouldn't run this much
boost on a day to day basis.
