The new standard tensioners don't necessarily fix the problem either, even
if your chain isn't stretched much and within spec. I put a brand new stock
adjuster in mine and it was better but still not brilliant at start-up. On
SSS recommendation (probably Stewarts idea) I fitted a small modification to
the new exy adjuster that works pretty well but I've since then heard a
couple of FJ's with the Mazdat mod and they make the chain as quite as
you're going to get i.e. no rattle at start up at all.

Sorry to take so long with the reply. I can get new standard parts for the
FJ, but the Mazda tensioners Terry and Wardy are talking about may be
better suited. I haven't tried them but I believe they would be worth a go?
