I'll put money your brake light problem is something to with the altenator.
Crazy I know but trust for a minute. I'd suggest checking the charge rate of
the altenator at revs(should be around 14volts). I had a similar prob not so
long ago, the altenator wasn't charging, the brake light came on and I got
stuck about an 1 hours drive from home.
